Congratulations Beth Chapman!
This week, Bail Works for America would like to sincerely congratulate Beth Chapman on being chosen to head the Professional Bail Agents of the United States (PBUS) as President!
We fully expect Chapman will be the strong leader PBUS needs ahead of the opportunities and challenges facing bail agents and our industry.
Below you will find her open letter addressing all bail agents. In it, Chapman articulates her vision for the future of the association. Please take the time to read her statement.
I want to thank you for the trust you have placed in me by electing me as President of our association. I do not take this responsibility lightly and I assure you I do not take the threats against our industry lightly as well. As I have stated throughout my campaign and have demonstrated by suspending my and Duane’s TV show, the protection of our industry and the expansion of the PBUS will be my highest priorities. My friends, we have a lot of work to do.
I outlined my three-pronged platform to all of you during the winter conference. My next step will be to begin implementing those changes. Increasing the numbers and the influence of our association is extremely important if we wish to be effective in fighting these attacks and promoting good policy to our industry. I will be releasing my plan on both recruitment and fundraising and will be calling on members who wish to be a part of this plan. I will also be reviewing our committees and ensuring that they are working with bail agents to identify and meet the needs of our local bail agents.
Secondly, I am currently talking with knowledgeable members with regard to legal challenges throughout the country and what we need to be doing to support states that are being challenged in court. I cannot state how important this task is. If one state’s bail laws are deemed unconstitutional, then that opens up our industry to incredibly disastrous legal rulings. We cannot let it get that far. I will be creating a legal crash team that will monitor and implement a plan to assist states where these challenges are occurring.
Lastly, we cannot continually be put on our heels and only act in reactionary fashion. We must implement a policy plan in conjunction with state associations on how to advance positive policy changes throughout the states that will benefit our industry. It is time for our association to become a national leader in advocacy of our industry.
I cannot communicate how honored I am to be in this position. I also cannot communicate how important I believe this time is for our industry. This is our time to shine and I am looking forward to working with all of you to secure our future. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any reason.
